JOB FUNCTIONS - Essential Functions
Assess the physically active person/athlete whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer; treat approved individuals in accordance with protocol. Record past and current health status; identify chief complaint; review systems
Acting as a scribe, may document/ record all aspects of the ambulatory visit including physician plan for care and follow up including:
Diagnosis and ordering fields - to pend orders under direct supervision of the supervising physician in the clinical setting
May perform problem focused musculoskeletal exam under direction of Attending physician
Performs telephone triage with focus on concussion and sports medicine postoperative calls regarding rehabilitation, postoperative exercises, bracing, return to play
Provide follow up communication to postoperative patients, based on surgeon plan for care and follow up as documented in electronic medical record
Act as a liaison between the physician, parents/patients, local ATC regarding follow up care, rehabilitation, and return to activity and/or athletic participation.
May perform the following tasks at the direction of a supervising physician:
Following the completion of training and competency documentation Cast/splint application and removal for extremity injuries
Application of braces/DME
Skills:
Essential Functions
Examine the patient’s chronological and/or developmental level in relationship to rehabilitation goals and treatment and develop injury prevention programs and provide appropriate preventative and supportive devices for the physically active person;
Dispense written, illustrated home programs of exercises and activities which assist the athlete in the healing and rehabilitation of the injuries;
Dispense implement written educational materials regarding care of injury, prevention and rehabilitation, and reconditioning exercises, and fitness programs;
Act as a liaison between the physician, PTs, OTs, and the patients/parents regarding follow-up care, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and return to activity and/or athletic participation
Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of prescribed treatment plans
Monitor patient/athlete and family response to treatments
In consultation and with the approval of the supervising physician, and per the physician’s plan of care as documented in the electronic record, modify interventions based on effectiveness, evidence-based practice and individual athlete and family needs
Act as a liaison (providing physician’s recommendations) to athletic trainers and coaches regarding athlete’s return to play after acute injury evaluation and/or surgical intervention.
Identify community resources and coordinate referrals for problems beyond the scope of practice and in consultation with the treating physician
Participate in community programs and outreach as designated by the Division
Provide positive and effective customer service that supports departmental and hospital operations
Contribute to the teamwork within and between departments and organizations
Skills
Intermediate proficiency with Office software (Microsoft Office).

Work Experience
At least three (3) years of athletic trainer experience. Required
At least five (5) years of athletic trainer experience Preferred
